Hello and welcome to this weeks SOS
This is my first SOS for 2 weeks. As I said before I am finding it harder to rake photo’s st this time of the year as it is always dark when I leave for work and come hime from work. This is not my favourite time of the year but I have managed to potter around the garden this morning as it has been a beautiful sunny morning.
Here is my SOS. It is short and sweet.
1. Winter (soon to be Festive) succulent display.
I love Christmas but within reason. Although I am far from religous I do think Christmas should be celebrated with family, friends and it is a time eof giving. However in the last 20 years for me it has got far to commercialised and pressurised. It lasts to long! I shall get into the Spirit of Christmas after my works do on the 13th December but until then bah humbug. I planted this display this morning. At the moment it is my “winter” display but of course this will change in the middle of December.
2. Seasonal Cactus plant that comes from Brazil
I bought this Cactus when I popped into the Royal Botanical gardens for a wee break last week. The colurs are so vivid it was difficult to take a photo. It was bursting with buds so I just had to have it.
3. Potting Bench
One of the best things I did garden wise this year was get this potting bench made. I took this phito a couple of weeks ago with spme of my succulents enjoying the Autumn sun. This has been a great success.
4. Saxifraga Pink Mist
I bought 5 of these Japanese hybrids at the beginning of Autumn from Edron Nurseries in Berwickshire. Thes are what I call double whammy plants. Beautiful vibrant leaves in various shades of green and pink and red flowers. This one is called Pink Mist and it is the best performing.
5. Aeonium Maximus
You might remember that a couple of months ago I wrote that I had sheered off this Aeonum from it’s routes. I replanted it and I am glad to say it is doing weel. So well I just notice a couple of babies ths morning.
6. Aubertia getting ready to explode.
Autumn can be the season of decay and die back but it can also be the season of rejuvenation. I noticed this plant was looking healthy whenI walked past it today anf by the looks of it it is going to be spectacular next spring. At the front of the pjcture is a Delosperma that will hoepfully over winter in the ground but I have got some cuttings growing as a back up.

Sedums, Dahlias and Hayfever 
Well I hope you have learned your lesson! Next time you need a wee break, just nip behind a convenient tree! The last place to “go” if you’re a plantaholic like most of us is anywhere that sells plants! 😉 As it is, I’m beginning to develop a fancy for succulents, thanks to you, so the last place I’m going is anywhere that sells them! At least until I’ve worked out where I can plant them!

You know what it is I was gong to say toilet break but thought that was crude! Double meaning words eh!🤣 Way the climate is going there will be plenty of places to plant them soon

Your potting bench is a success, as we said a few months ago. And this picture with the blue sky … beautiful!
The seasonal cactus plant looks like the one I posted. A schlumbergera I suppose. For me, it will be tennis and of course rugby this afternoon and tonight …

My ‘potting bench’ aka outside table, has finally rotted away to the point where I don’t think there will be much left standing by spring! So new potting bench is on the list for next year’s main (non-plant) purchase. Are all your succulents indoors now?

Agree, Christmas is far too commercialised to the point it has lost its meaning. I like your sedum succulent display and the colours work well together. I also have a Brazilian cactus or tow – courtesy of Lidls a few months back. They are now in flower. One like yours and a pink one.

I am getting here a bit late. I was way behind yesterday. I posted pictures of succulents too, but they are not as interesting because I do not do anything to them. They are just out in the garden. SOMEDAY, (really) I will do more with them in my home garden. I sort of miss them. Those in my downtown planter box still look great.

I love the picture of the potting bench with the bright blue sky behind. It looks like the kind of sky we see here almost all the time. I have four sempervivens growing now and am hoping they’ll flower before too long. They all look happy. It was you who introduced me to them. Thanks. 😊

I’ve never warmed to succulents, ever, but I always love coming to your blog & am glad you’re back after a short break. Not only do you make them look really beautiful (great bench photo, as everyone else says), but your enthusiasm is contagious to read about. You’re converting all sorts here!
