Hello and welcome to Six on Saturday.

I can guess how many of the blogs written in Britain will start this week. Apparently there has been a lot of rain in parts of the country this week? Sorry to sound smug but there has been any rain up here, in fact Tuesday and Wednesday were absolutely glorious with sunshine all day. The nights are getting distinctly cold and this is now sleeping into the daytime, so I have now put all my tender succulents under cover. The days are shortening extremely rapidly and the chance to spend some time in the garden after work are disappearing so I will have to make sure that I spend as much time as possible in the garden at weekends.

Here is my six.

1. Knautia Mars Midget

The second flowering of this plant this year and the colour of the flower seems to be more vibrant. A smaller variety of Knautia it does perform well and as with most herbaceous perennials can be left to its own.

2. Saxifraga Whitehills

At this time of the year most of the Saxifragas I have in my garden put on new growth. This one Whitehills produced lots of flowers this year and was looking a bit sorry for itself with a few gaps the end of June. Now however as you can see it has bounced back to life. The silvery grey/green leaves really does look good with a heavy frost. Saxifragas do look like a succulents at times but they are not.

3. Sempervivum Tintenblut

This has got to be my favourite sempervivum at the moment. Sark burgundy in colour this seems to produce extra rosettes for fun. I bought this plant a few months ago so I am excited to see how this looks on the spring.

4. Forgetful Bulb Ordering

I came home last night to a box of bulbs that I can’t remember ordering. Well that’s a little bit of a lie I can remember ordering some lilies but for the life of me I can’t remember ordering 100 tulip bulbs. I had said that J was not going to not order many tulips this year but as always I seem to have no will power. The tulips i revived yesterday included Antarctica. Queensland, Carnival de Rio, Golden Dynasty and Salmon Dynasty. Other Tulips that mysteriously turned up in my car after I have been to a garden centre have included Groeland and Spring Green. I have also planted 4 types of daffodils including Mount Hood, Nightcap, Peach Cobbler and Trepolo , as well as spring flower Irises Red Ember and Lion King.

5. Shed Double Glazing

So I am running out of space to put some of my Succulents this year. I don’t want to buy any more greenhouse or cold frames this year soaps a cheap option I bought a sheet of Perspex from Homebase and “double glazed” the shed. I had already bought some cheap shelves from Aldi earlier on in the year. So I am gong to put some of the succulents on the top shelf. I am not sure if this will work as the window is west facing only but fortune favours the brave as they say.

6. Yellow Begonia

i bought some Red and White yellow Begonias last year . Imagine my surprise when I planted them this year and one of them was yellow. I could swear there wasn’t a yellow one last year. As you can see it is a beautiful colour and a welcome addition.

This weekend I will be watching the Rugby, planting more bulbs and attending the Octoberfest beer festival at my local to do some quality control beer tasting….someone has to do it! That is my Saturday planned which is just as well because Sunday looks like a washout.
